REPAIRING YOUR WASHER IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU MIGHT THINK

Repairing your washer yourself may seem like a great way to save money, but it isn’t always the case. There are many parts in a washing machine, and they can vary greatly from one washing machine to another. Although there are simple things to fix the washer, you can check it yourself, such as making sure the plug is properly connected or if the circuit breaker has tripped. There are many more complex things to diagnose that require the experience of a professional.

Is the circuit breaker open, or is it a faulty cover switch?

One of the most common problems that your washer can have is a faulty or defective cover switch. When the lid switch is not working properly, your washer cannot turn and may not work. On other machines, you may not fill with water. The problem may be caused by a special fuse in the cover switch which needs to be replaced by a damaged water pump. You might need a commercial appliance repair service. 

Your washer is running but is not working.

Well, let’s be honest. When a sock disappears, we usually put the blame on the dryer, but sometimes the washer is responsible for the missing part. You see, sometimes a sock or a small piece of clothing can work between the bathtub and the outdoor bathtub which retains water. This can allow the little sock penetrate the drian hose and if this happen, you might end up removing the hoses from the pump. 

Sometimes you can’t be so lucky because you can’t remove the sock underneath. When this happens, you have fun. You can even invent new and colorful words. At this point, you will likely need to remove the agitator and the top of the outer cover from the drum and inner, What! Did you think this washer repair would be easy? I don’t know about you, but it’s not funny. To top it off, you will probably need special tools for washer repair, not just your normal screwdriver.

It is relatively easy to repair the washer successfully. Spare parts can be purchased from several retailers and many of them are easily interchangeable: a hose, a pressure gauge, a strap or the water tank.

However, there are more blamed failures that may be more difficult to diagnose or repair. For example, if the water pressure is raw or variable, it can be the result of an air leak in the water inlet pipe or a blockage in it, causing less the entrance of the water. If after cleaning the intake tube and checking for obstructions, this does not solve the problem, replace the relief valve, as it is a sign of wear.

I don’t know about you, but after spending a few hours of extreme frustration, I would kick myself for not hiring a professional who could have repaired the washing machine in a fraction of the time it took me.

Repair the washer yourself means saving a few dollars in the short term, but using commercial appliance repair saves you a lot of time and frustration.
